One of the world’s most beloved and frequently played violin concertos. And as if that weren’t enough, the orchestra presents another gem: Antonín Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9, “From the New World.”
Don’t miss this spectacular musical program, conducted by Greek maestro Zoi Tsokanou.
Delicate Violin and Heavenly Melodies
With a fragile, tentative violin voice over a rolling piano beat, Britta Byström’s A Walk to Brahms sets the tone for the evening’s program. This piece is part of her series of paraphrases on famous composers - here engaging in a musical dialogue with Brahms himself.
A mesmerizing opening that plays with our perception of Brahms as the grand melodist and formalist. It also provides star soloist Alexandra Counova a chance to introduce herself before the evening’s main event: Johannes Brahms’ renowned Violin Concerto in D major. For many, a favorite among the great violin concertos—and it’s no wonder. This masterpiece has everything: lush orchestral colors, dramatic contrasts, and truly heavenly melodic lines. All conducted with a masterful touch by Greek guest conductor Zoi Tsokanou.
But the magic doesn’t end there. After intermission, the orchestra takes center stage in one of the world’s most beloved symphonies—Antonín Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9, “From the New World.” With its campfire-like simplicity and grand, sweeping sound, it provides a soothing contrast to Brahms’ breathtaking violin fireworks.
Tickets for the concert and Sara kulturhus subscription for classical music will be released on Friday April 4 at 10:00 AM via sarakulturhus.se, ticketmaster.se, and Skellefteå Tourist Center.
