This fall, audiences can look forward to a unique concert when one of soul music’s greatest stars meets local musicians on the grand stage of Sara kulturhus. On October 21, Grammy-winning soul artist Ledisi and Skellefteå Symphony Orchestra will come together for a tribute concert honoring the legendary Nina Simone.

Ledisi – A Grammy-Winning Force in Music and Art
Born in New Orleans and raised in Oakland, California, Ledisi has captivated audiences for over two decades with her unique voice and powerful stage presence. She is not only a Grammy-winning singer but also a songwriter, author, actress, music producer, film producer, publisher, and a leading figure in the music industry.

With 13 albums to her name and 14 Grammy nominations, including a win for "Anything for You" in 2021, Ledisi has made a lasting impact on the music world. Her 2021 album Ledisi Sings Nina, where she interprets the works of Nina Simone alongside Metropole Orkest and The New Orleans Jazz Orchestra, was highly praised by critics for its deep connection to Simone’s musical legacy.

Beyond her music career, Ledisi has also made a name for herself in film and theater. She portrayed Mahalia Jackson in the Oscar-nominated film Selma and has appeared in productions like American Soul and POSE. She has also performed her one-woman show, The Legend of Little Girl Blue, to sold-out audiences.

Ledisi is also a dedicated advocate for the arts and education. She is a professor at Berklee College of Music and serves as Artist in Residence for Berklee’s Jazz and Gender Justice Program. Additionally, she is only the second Black woman to hold the position of Chair of the Recording Academy’s Los Angeles Chapter, where she works to promote diversity and inclusion in the music industry.

Skellefteå Symphony Orchestra – An Orchestra with Heart and History
For nearly a century, Skellefteå Symphony Orchestra has been an essential part of the city’s musical life. Since its founding in 1927, the orchestra has grown from a small ensemble into a dynamic symphony orchestra, performing everything from classical masterpieces to innovative collaborations with both national and international artists.

Each year, the orchestra presents several concerts, including the grand autumn concert conducted by Ulf Wadenbrandt—who will also be conducting Ledisi’s concert. The spring concert alternates between classical performances and family-friendly children's concerts. Through its collaboration with Skellefteå Kulturskola, the orchestra is committed to supporting the next generation of musicians.
